Moravia Brass Band is the largest brass ensemble in the Czech Republic and the resident orchestra of Brno Brass Fest. Thirty musicians, led by chief conductor Chuhei Iwasaki, popularise the playing of brass instruments, present unique programmes and arrangements, invite exceptional guests and, above all, create a specific group – a brass orchestra – a brass band. The orchestra was founded in July 2017 and since its inception has played dozens of concerts in various venues across the country, and in 2020 it will be the first brass band to sound the Dvořák Hall of Prague’s Rudolfinum. Abroad and occasionally in the Czech Republic, he collaborates with conductor Heiko Mathias Förster on interesting projects in conjunction with the symphony orchestra and also with Robert Kružík.
In a very short period of time he has been part of national and international festivals, the Prague Spring International Festival, Moravian Autumn, Špilberk International Music Festival, Concentus Moraviae, Smetana’s Litomyšl, St. Wenceslas Music Festival, Smetana Days, and in July 2022 he shone in France at the Festival Cuivres en Dombes. Among the soloists of the Moravia Brass Band are world leaders, such as trumpeters Gábor Tarkövi and Stanislav Masaryk, horn player Radek Baborák, trombonists Zoltán Kiss and Gonzalo Nova, as well as members of the orchestra, namely trumpeter Ondřej Mot’ka and flugelhorn player Pavel Šárník. The orchestra offers programmes of film music, on which it collaborates with popular singers Anna Julia Slováčková and Milan Peroutka, Kristýna Daňhelová and Libor Macháček.
Moravia Brass Band is also engaged in educational activities and popularizes the playing of brass instruments among the youngest listeners. The orchestra’s unique repertoire includes original arrangements of carefully selected compositions, original foreign works for specific brass band ensembles, and compositions composed directly for the Moravia Brass Band. Each year the orchestra presents a world premiere. The main arranger and composer of the orchestra is Ondřej Mot’ka.
